What is The Royal Mint?

The Royal Mint is a government owned mint that produces coins for the United Kingdom. It's a limited company that's 100% owned by The Treasury.

It has an exclusive contract to exclusive contract to supply all the nation's coinage, as well as to supply blanks and medals.

Royal Mint Fact - Issac Newton, celebrated in a 2017 50 pence coin, became the mint's warden in 1696. He worked to deal with the country's growing problems with counterfeiting at time when forgeries accounted for 10 per cent of the country's coinage.

As well as producing British coins, the mint provides services to over 60 different countries, including New Zealand, Norway, Brunei and many Caribbean nations.

Royal Mint Fact - The mint made the 2012 Summer Olympic Games medals. 4,700 gold, sliver a bronze medals were produced by the mint with each medal being struck 15 times with 900 tonnes of force.
