History in your pocket

An historic gold coin minted between 1852 and1859

The obverse of this 19th century gold ducat coin features the youthful profile of Emperor Franz Joseph I, sporting a laurel wreath. Around the edge it reads FRANC IOS I D G AUSTRIAE IMPERATOR (the latter word from which we derive the English word for Emperor).

The reverse design features the crowned double-headed eagle of the Austrian Empire. The inscriptions HVNG·BOH·LOMB·ET VEN and GAL·LOD·ILL·REX encircle the coin's edge.

Franz-Joseph I

The emperor of Austria and King of Hungary, Franz-Joseph I reigned from 1848 to 1916 - the third longest-reigning monarch in European history. He was also the uncle of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, whose fateful assassination triggered the outbreak of the First World War.

He is also well-known for his marriage to Elisabeth 'Sisi' of Bavaria, the hugely popular Austrian Empress frequently portrayed on stage and screen.

Don't miss your chance to own this genuine historic gold coin.
