The reverse of this commemorative is like no other you've seen. It features the powerful heraldic beasts - the Lion of England, Unicorn of Scotland and Dragon of Wales. The surround a shield decorated with a Union Jack. On top of the shield is the crown of the British Monarchy. A beautifully detailed pattern around the beasts include the rose, thistle, daffodil and 4 leaf clover. The commemorative is finished in gold and has a superb Proof-like finish, with a larger than average diameter of 40mm.
Colloquially known as the Dam Busters, Operation Chastise was a successful British aerial attack that destroyed or damaged several German hydroelectric power plants using specialised 'bouncing' bombs.
The raid achieved notoriety in popular culture with the successful 1955 film The Dam Busters.
