An Enduring Romance with Jane Austen 2017
200 years after her death in 1817, The Royal Mint has issued a range of £2 coins to commemorate the anniversary one of England's most famous novelists.
Austen was known primarily for 6 major novels, which explored the dependence of women on a good marriage in to gain social standing and economic security. Jane's sharp wit, with her realism and social commentary, have made her of great and historical importance to critics and scholars across the world. Her novels have inspired many films, including the popular TV adaptation featuring the smoldering Colin Firth, and adaptations.
