The Queen's Sapphire Jubilee £5 Coins

On 6 February 2017, HM Queen Elizabeth II reached a momentous milestone: she became the longest serving monarch in British history and the first British monarch to celebrate a sapphire jubilee.

The Royal Mint's Commemorative £5 Coin

For such an historic event, demand for The Royal Mint's commemorative five pound was high. The low mintage of many of the coins - only 110 limited edition presentations of the 5oz gold Proof coin were available - meant coin collectors and Royal fans had to be quick to secure the coin of their choice.

A special strike on the day Sovereign was released, struck on 6 February 2017 in 22-karat gold and finished to Brilliant Uncirculated standard.

The stunning coin was designed by the mint's designer Glyn Davies. Davies depicted the Stuart sapphire of the Imperial State Crown, looking to the regalia of the coronation. For the 5 ounce and kilo coins, Gregory Cameron found inspiration in tradition and heraldry. He included oak and olive branches to represent the Queen's devotion to her country and role.

The mint worked with Jennie Bond, former BBC Royal Correspondent, to create packaging that offers a unique and personal insight into the Queen to accompany each coin. A Certificate of Authenticity also comes with every coin.
