Stephen Hawking, 1942-2018

BNT Coins are pleased to offer you a striking silver plated commemorative to honour one of Britain's greatest scientific minds - Stephen Hawking.

The obverse of this limited edition silver plated commemorative features a breathtakingly vibrant colour design of beloved scientist Stephen Hawking. Captured in a kaleidoscopic rainbow of colour, this remarkably stylised portrait is a wonderful tribute.

The inscription "Perhaps one day I will go into space" reflects Hawking's ambitious eagerness to partake in commercial interstellar travel. Sir Richard Branson offered Hawking a free space flight in 2009, but unfortunately the technology required was not available prior to Hawking's death in March 2018.

Struck in Prooflike quality, the inscription across the top reads STEPHEN HAWKING and at the bottom its reads 1942-2018.

The reverse of this commemorative features a stunningly intricate design, which includes the heraldic animals of the United Kingdom, and the symbolic flora of each country, all gathered round a central shield.

Tribute to a Genius

Stephen Hawking was arguably one of the greatest scientific minds in British history. Aside from his role as a genius cosmologist and theoretical physicist, Hawking was also a trailblazing campaigner for disability rights. Diagnosed with motor neurone disease as a young man, Hawking was told by doctors in 1963 that he would probably live just two more years. When he passed away on March 14 2018, Hawking was 76 years old.
