The Royal Platinum Wedding Anniversary

Princess Elizabeth married Philip Mountbatten on 20 November 1947 at Westminster Abbey. It was a momentous ocassion. The event took place in front of 2,000 guests and was broadcast to 200 million radio listeners around the world.

The princess had to use ration coupons to obtain the material to make her beautiful dress, which was a duchess satin bridal gown with motifs of star lilies and orange blossoms.

After the ceremony, the couple went to Buckingham Palace and waved to the large crowds from the balcony. They spent their wedding night at Broadlands in Hampshire, and the rest of their honeymoon at Birkhall on the Balmoral Estate.
